On August 23, 2016 a private party sand contractor caused extensive guardrail damage to the Old Railroad Road Bridge. We have met with TXDOT and inspectors have determined that the bridge is structurally sound. However, the guardrail situation still needs to be addressed before the bridge can be reopened. We will be conducting the repairs in the winter of 2016 along with adding retaining walls to the south side of the bridge and applying "10 MPH" posted speed limit signs.
In speaking with TXDOT a long-term solution for this bridge would be to replace the bridge with a wider surface. Commissioner Jones is in discussions with TXDOT on funding options that may be available to the county for future use on this project.
